December 21, 2019 –
I count the days that have passed since I lost my job by the number of resumes I send out.
I count the days since I had my thyroid removed by the pills I take every day.
I count the days until I will be happy by the nights that I lay alone in my bed worrying about the future.
I count the days until I have to make the tough decision to liquidate my RRSP to pay my bills.
I count the days until our elevator is working again so I don’t have to climb 10 flights of stairs.
I count the days until my life will be normal again by burying reality.
Each day brings me one step further away from the past and one step closer to the future.
I don’t know how to do anything else but count the days.
